Worthing College
developing the “academic athlete”
At the Worthing College Academy of Sport is a centre of sporting excellence that offers unrivalled opportunities for young people in the South of England.
A variety of choice at Worthing College is key to academic and sporting development with the College providing a range of A Level and vocational options. In the Sport and PE department alone we provide Level 2 through to Level 5 courses, allowing students to access courses for one year up to four years. This shows a commitment of academic flexibility and performance.
Being a TASS Dual Career centre links to our ethos of developing the “academic athlete”. Currently the Academy of Sport has nationally recognised programmes in the following sports; men’s & women’s football, men’s & women’s rugby, netball and basketball. These programmes train three times a week and compete at Regional and National level. Training includes technical and tactical areas, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition and video analysis. The TASS Dual Career Programme is also open to students who compete in ANY sport.
More about this site
As a TASS Dual Career Athlete you will have access to the following throughout the academic year:
- One to one tutorial sessions as part of the Academy Athlete to support academic performance
- Strength and Conditioning Education (in partnership with the Sussex Performance Centre)
- Nutrition & Recovery Education
- Sports Psychology Education
- Free College gym membership
- Pastoral Support
All of the above is fitted within the College timetable and with support networks including teachers, tutors, coaches and support staff this allows the “academic athlete” to feel safe within their environment and therefore go onto achieve excellence both within careers and sport.
This is seen with over 42 players representing their country in a range of sports from Football to Hockey as well as almost 110 (to date) representing the county of Sussex. This is shown with our College teams being arguably the most consistent in Sussex by winning 27 County Cups across 4 sports and 5 National titles (Rugby & Football) since 2007.
As the Academy of Sport has been nationally recognised for a number of years we do experience students who come and study from out of area.
