TASS is always supporting the next generation of British talent. Providing expert performance support to around 1,500 athletes a year across 52 sports, TASS works with athletes at different stages of their journey – from those on the England Talent Pathway to emerging and developing sports, and athletes training remotely across the UK.
Since launching in 2004, TASS has supported more than 10,000 athletes across 73 sports and disciplines. The unique model brings expert performance support closer to athletes, through a UK-wide network of delivery sites, national governing bodies and specialist practitioners.
But how do we make sure athletes stay connected to that support throughout their journey – and continue to see its value as they progress?
As part of our latest work, we brought together 24 TASS athletes for a day of photography, conversation and discovery. We spent time getting to know the athletes behind the performance – learning about their sports, their experiences and, most importantly, their ambitions for the future.
Through the photography, we wanted to capture something more than athletic performance. We wanted to show the personalities and the journeys that TASS supports, and bring to life the role that expert support can play as young athletes work towards their goals.
One result is The Class of TASS – a celebration of the athletes coming through TASS today, and a way of making the organisation and its support more visible, relatable and exciting to the next generation of athletes joining the programme.
It is about showing athletes what being part of TASS can mean, helping them see themselves as part of something bigger, and communicating the value of the support around them throughout their journey.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to St Mary’s University – we couldn’t have asked for a more helpful and accommodating host for the day.
