Helping Dual Career Athletes Succeed

TASS Dual Career Accredited Sites support student athletes to balance their education with the demands of training and competing in their sport.

What are TASS Dual Career Accredited Sites?

TASS Dual Career Accredited Sites are recognised for their commitment to helping talented athletes succeed in education
and sport.

These schools, colleges and universities provide academic flexibility and support to talented athletes who are trying to balance busy training schedules with academic success. Athletes at accredited sites can also benefit from a programme of workshops, helping them to develop competencies needed to pursue a dual career, as well as being invited to central TASS events geared towards creating academic pathways for athletes transitioning from FE to HE institutions.

Achieving Accreditation is a mark of excellence and these institutions are integral to the TASS network, setting the standard for dual career education across the UK.

FAQs

What is a TASS Dual Career Accredited Site?

TASS Dual Career Accredited sites are colleges, sixth forms and universities that provide academic flexibility and support to talented athletes. Specifically, they are recognised for helping athletes balance their education with training for their sporting careers.

How do sites achieve TASS Dual Career Accreditation?

Institutions apply for the TASS Dual Career Accreditation Scheme by submitting an application, complete with a Dual Career Policy, Academic Flexibility Commitments and a Workshop programme, which is then assessed by an internal panel. Each institution must also nominate a ‘Dual Career Coordinator,’ who is responsible for running the scheme on the ground and must complete a training course as part of the application process. TASS also conducts a site visit and ensures that certain anti-doping and safeguarding requirements are met by each site.

Is the Accreditation Scheme only for higher education?

No. Since the competencies required to successfully balance a Dual Career need to be developed at an early age, there are two versions of the Dual Career Accreditation Scheme: one for Colleges and Sixth Forms and another for Universities. An ultimate goal for the scheme is to create links and foster working relationships between accredited institutions at both levels, so that athletes can benefit from the same level of academic flexibility and support, throughout their academic journey.

What are the benefits of becoming an Accredited Site?

Accreditation formally recognises an institution’s dedication to supporting student athletes. It also enhances the institution’s reputation, potentially attracting future sporting talent. All sites are given access to a ‘Dual Career Curriculum,’ as well as a ‘Dual Career Toolkit’ to assist in the creation of a successful and thriving Dual Career environment at their institution. Staff at accredited institutions are also invited to benefit from TASS’ comprehensive CPD programme, as well as various TASS events and networking days.

How can my institution apply for Accreditation?

If your institution is interested, contact Kirsty Field at kirsty.field@tass.gov.uk with an Expression of Interest and any questions and we’ll provide you with more information.
